Álvaro Sánchez

Álvaro supports DA’s professionalization and growth, providing financial analysis and sound financial reporting, managing system improvements and process design, and leveraging data for strategic decision-making. His main accomplishments at DA have been working alongside the COO to support the finance function as DA grew its headcount by 2x and revenue by 65% YoY. Álvaro also led the implementation, administration, and operational maintenance of CMAP, DA’s main source of business intelligence data since early 2022.
Álvaro is currently responsible for preparing and delivering financial reports for internal and external stakeholders, including regional and firm-wide financial results, utilization and business development updates, and preparing rolling forecasts of DA’s business outlook. Álvaro works closely with DA’s Associate Directors and Project Leaders on all aspects related to the financial management of projects throughout their lifecycle. He is also responsible for implementing business intelligence strategies like process automation, systems improvements, data processing & reporting, and data quality management.
Álvaro previously served as a Financial Analyst for the Structured Finance department of CAF—the Development Bank of Latin America & the Caribbean, working alongside project teams responsible for the evaluation, structuring, and administration of project finance transactions. In this role, he conducted in-depth industry research, credit analysis, and financial modelling, specializing in Latin America’s transportation, port, and renewable energy sectors.
His main achievements include being recognized by CAF’s senior management alongside his project team for the internal approval and subsequent amendment and restatement of all financial documents for the largest-ever PPP financing in Uruguay (Ferrocarril Central) for the closing of a subordinated A/B loan. Álvaro also supported the internal approval and financial closing of CAF’s first structured finance transaction in local currency for Colombia (Autopista al Mar 1), as well as the negotiation and internal approval of a debt restructuring for a merchant risk project finance deal in the port sector.
Prior to that, Álvaro served as Grants Manager for the Latin American edition of the Bloomberg Philanthropies Mayors Challenge, overseeing a USD 9 million grant awarded to 5 winning government-innovation projects implemented by the city halls of Bogotá, Guadalajara, Medellín, Santiago de Chile, and São Paulo. Álvaro was responsible for the grant’s financial, contractual, and logistical aspects and handled financial reporting to donors and key stakeholders. During the project’s implementation phase, Álvaro worked alongside Delivery Associates’ project team.
